Icon Writing Workshops are 5 - 6 day retreats in which participants learn the prayerful practice of painting or "writing" a Byzantine style icon.  The emphasis is on the step by step process of painting an icon, using Jo Sonia acrylic paint and 23 carat gold leaf, as well as on the spiritual practice of allowing God to work in us and through us.  Each day begins with a Eucharist service in the Episcopal tradition and includes intentional silence, listening to Gregorian chant, noon day prayer, group reflection and teachings on the history of icons and the practice of praying with icons.  This time set apart is joyful, most often transformative and challenging, open to all faiths and to those with or without art experience. The course per-person fee varies from $350 - $800 depending on room and board options and includes all supplies and 5 full days of instruction.
